SEPP AND SEBA: Subsidy schemes for new or used EV’s
X minutes reading time
The government runs two subsidy schemes to promote electric driving. Are you thinking about buying or leasing a new or used fully electric car? If the answer’s yes, you may be eligible for SEPP as a private individual and SEBA for business purposes, so make the most of the opportunity!
SEPP – Subsidy for private individuals
Are you considering buying or leasing a new or used fully electric car in the smaller or compact class as a private individual? Then you may be eligible for SEPP, the subsidy for electric passenger cars for private individuals. Every year, the government makes a budget available for acquiring new or used electric vehicles.
In 2022, this budget stood at 71 million euros for new electric passenger cars (purchase and lease) and 20.4 million euros for used electric cars (purchase and lease). Unfortunately, both budgets have already been completely used up this year. A new budget will be made available from 01-01-2023, however.
So if you’re planning to buy or lease a new or used EV in 2023, you can apply for a subsidy to help. The subsidies can amount to nearly 3,000 euros, so it’s definitely worth putting in an application. You can apply for SEPP once again from 9:00 am on 2 January 2023 for an electric passenger car with a purchase or lease agreement that you entered into on or after 1 January 2023. The car doesn’t need to have been delivered or registered in your name yet for you to submit a subsidy application.

SEBA – Subsidy for entrepreneurs
Are you an entrepreneur and are you thinking about buying or leasing a new or used zero-emission commercial vehicle for transporting goods? Then you may be eligible for SEBA, the subsidy scheme for zero-emission commercial vehicles. As with SEPP, the budget that’s made available by the government is checked each year.
In 2022, the total annual budget was 22 million euros. More than 5.5 million euros of this is left over. This means it’s still possible to apply for a commercial vehicle subsidy in 2022. The subsidies can amount to 5,000 euros per commercial vehicle, so it’s definitely worth making an application. Want to know if you’re eligible for SEBA? Then take a look at the government’s website.
