Taking your EV on a winter sports trip: Jasper heads to Austria with the KIA EV6

X minutes reading time

Yes, really: you can even take your electric car on holiday during the winter without worry. Colleagues from LeasePlan and ALD Automotive Netherlands will show you how.

KIA EV6 Long Range RWD

From long lines at charging stations to a plethora of boring layovers, every EV driver knows the horror stories of road trips with an electric car. This winter, colleagues at LeasePlan Netherlands and ALD Automotive Netherlands are putting them to the test. They’re going on winter sports trips with their electric cars – and taking you along on their journeys!

This time, LeasePlan colleague Jasper sets off with his girlfriend to the Austrian village of Ellmau. It’s their first time going on a winter sports trip with their electric car, the Kia EV6 Long Range RWD.

Jasper: “The most important tip I get ahead of time is, ‘Make sure you figure out the charging times on the route ahead of time, so you know approximately where to charge.’ With that knowledge, I download the A Better Route Planner app and plot the entire route.

We’re both a bit nervous, but we’re well prepared. And guess what? It’s a very comfortable way to travel! We stop 3 times during the 1,000-kilometre ride to recharge the battery. Our KIA charges quickly (240 kW), so it provides just enough time for a short walk and a cup of coffee. The German charging network is especially good. It’s sometimes more difficult to find charging stations in Austria, but we often find them at hotels.

Tip: Make sure you know in advance approximately where you can charge and download multiple charging passes such as Travelcard, Tesla and Plugsurfing. Then you never have to worry about a dead battery!”
