Taking your EV on a winter sports trip: Symon heads to Austria with the Tesla Model YTaking your EV on a winter sports trip:

X minutes reading time

Would you rather trade the rain for a fresh pack of snow? This winter, colleagues from LeasePlan Nederland and ALD Automotive are going on a winter sports holiday with their electric car – and you can read here how that went.

Tesla Model Y

Just in time for the holidays, LeasePlan colleague Symon and his family depart to enjoy a white Christmas in Austria. They stay a bit over a week.

Symon: “After going on holiday with my Tesla Model Y for the first time last summer, we’re now confident to take it on a winter sports trip. The winter tyres and lower temperatures do reduce the range, but with 3 kids in the back seat, you want to take frequent breaks anyway. Plus, when I bought my car, I got 10,000 free kilometres with the Tesla Superchargers that I can put to good use.

While the German Autobahn invites motorists to travel along at high speeds, we drive at a more modest 120 km/hr in order to get the most out of the battery. We therefore cover the 1,060 kilometres in 12.5 hours. We stop 5 times in total to recharge and stretch our legs. Despite it being a popular time for winter sports, we don’t have to wait anywhere for an available charging station. And when we arrive in Austria, the Travelcard works there as well. So no horror stories from this road trip, either!”
