Taking your EV on a winter sports trip: Daniëlle heads to Les Gets with the Tesla Model Y

X minutes reading time

Yes, really: you can even take your electric car on holiday during the winter without worry. Colleagues from LeasePlan and ALD Automotive Netherlands will show you how.

Tesla Model Y

Daniëlle: “A winter sports trip with the electric car? Two things about this never really appealed to us: waiting at charging stations and the more limited range. And yet: this year we’re going for it. Because of our positive experience with the EV during the summer, we’re curious to see if it’s just as nice now.

We drive as fast as we’re allowed, so sometimes 130 kilometres per hour. Surprisingly, despite the cold weather, we notice little difference in performance and make all the stops scheduled by the Tesla navigation along the way. To be on the safe side, we also use A Better Route Planner and ANWB Onderweg for alternatives. It works perfectly: we don’t queue anywhere and never have to charge for more than 30 minutes.

Tip: If you need to stay somewhere in between, look for an ibis hotel. At ours, the ibis Dijon Sud, there were an impressive number of superchargers!

Conclusion? Travel time is 1.5 hours longer than with a gasoline-powered car due to charging. But those very breaks in between make the road trip so doable. We’ll do it again next year. And this summer we’ll be driving to our furthest destination yet: Portugal!”
